Comments:

I taught English and Psychology from 1970 through 1982. I became a college counselor in 1982 to 1985. I became a high school counselor in 1989 and have remained at Kapaun Mt. Carmel the past 21 years.

I retired from Kapaun Mt. Carmel in 2014 after working there 25 years. I now teach the Rite of Christian Initiation at St. James, Augusta, Kansas. And I visit often with my 6 grandchildren in the USA and visit sometimes with my 2 granddaughters in Shepeau Stow, England.

School Story:

It was so cold living in the dorms on third floor of the administration building that borders wore their coats, mufflers, socks and gloves to bed on some cold winter nights. We could freeze water on the window sills due to the poor fitting windows.

The wind blew almost every day in Dodge City, Kansas. It almost always smelled of the feedlots. We border girls used to joke that we would bottle the wind and then open it to take a sniff to remember Dodge City and our time at ST. Mary of the Plains HS.

Hi, Becky! It was wonderful to see you at our reunion last September. I'm sure we both enjoyed our tour of the St. Mary's Building.

I hope you are doing well. Liana Albers Torkelson

Dear Joyce--- How wonderful that you are the archivist for the Catholic Diocese of Wichita! I am thankful that the diocesan history is in such good hands.

I live in Augusta, Kansas. I worked at Kapaun Mt. Carmel as a counselor for 25 years and retired in 2014. I'm surprised we have not bumped into one another in our years in Wichita.

Remember our days at St. Mary? They were truly blessed days with good formation and wonderful teachers and classmates. Liana Albers Torkelson
