After High School, I went to Fort Hays State with cousin Marilyn. There I met Howard Riedel...we graduated in 1960 and married at Sacred Heart Church in l961. I lived in Ulysses, Kansas from 1961 to 2005. During that time Howard and I raised a son, Chris, in this very special little town. I was a Kindergarten teacher...Howard had his own business....Real Estate and Insurance. We were active in our community and church. But, unfortunately, in 1996 Howard died of a brain tumor after 6 months of surgery and treatment. I continued living there with the support of friends and neighbors...and traveled extensively.
In 2005 I then moved to Overland Park, Ks. to be nearer to our son. Another drawing card was my grandson Jake (born in 2000). I now live only a mile from them. The move has been a good one as I have made lots of very nice friends in my maintence provided community. And, then, there are so many neat things to do in Kansas City. Also, my church is close and I've enjoyed meeting people there. AND, then, there's that grandson of mine who keeps his Grammy happily on the run!! Also, I have a 5 year old Westie dog, Daisy, who is my little companion. She asks for nothing but food, a walk each day and lots of love!!
So, that's the story of Carol Stremel Riedel since High School at St. Mary of the Plains.

School Story:

Many favorite stories....
Mostly the friendship of the town girls that I went to school with at Sacred Heart and then at SMOP. What fun we had!! And Kline's Dairy made a bundle off of us!! We were a busy bunch...either in one of my cars or Judy Lemon's big 2 door Chrysler.
Of course, when we went to high school there were Boarder girls. And we befriended them too. My cousins Marilyn and Jeanette came from a little town near Hays to attend SMOP. We town girls always invited the boarder girls in to stay during the weekend of the Boothill Fiesta....and what times we had!!
The best of memories were that we were a "close" class....always liking everyone....and it continues on even now all these years later. Our reunions are always looked forward to.... all being together once again.

Happy birthday to High school friend Carol!!! After Christmas Leyola Stewart was visiting her son and family in nearby Lees Summit and so she and I went to see Marlene Lix Hilgers. She lives in North Kansas City. We had such a good visit remembering our long ago days at St. Mary of the Plains!!
